SAFE Browser v0.15.4.2056 bug

Using SAFE Browser v0.15.4.2056 on macOS 10.14.5 I can reproduce a crash.

  1. Load a FilesContainer xor-url via the address box.
  2. Open the developer tools with option+command+i.

Hi @anon78698497, thanks for reporting.
We have an issue in the repository for this already, see here but haven’t prioritised it for fix just yet. I will update the issue with your report.

@StephenC

Next time I’ll search the relevant repo’s issues first. Thanks.

@StephenC

FWIW I’ve found a workaround that avoids the crash approx. 20% of the time.

  1. Start SAFE Browser.
  2. Open new tab.
  3. Open dev tools.
  4. Open destination address.

Adding the second tab appears to help.

Nice one @anon78698497, appreciated. I’ve updated the issue. Will definitely help us narrow down the cause :slightly_smiling_face:
I do remember when I first logged it I couldn’t repro every time so this probably explains why

I’m not able to replicate this w/ 0.16.0-alpha-0 on mac.

@anon78698497 can you let me know what platform you’re on please.

thanks @drehb! totally missed that

@joshuef

Is that in reference to the bug or the workaround?

@StephenC

FWIW this bug is severe enough that my progress with developing for SAFE is halted by it. When it’s resolved I’ll be able to be much more helpful.

The OP. (devtools crash).

Should note i’m on MacOS 10.15.2 . @StephenC are you able to replicate? (and what v/ of mac are you on?)

@joshuef Yes still able to reproduce, even with the latest alpha.

Repro steps with safe browser alpha v0.16.0 on macOS 10.15.2:

  1. Launch SAFE Network App Alpha and log into shared vault.
  2. Launch SAFE Browser v0.16.0-alpha.
  3. Open a new tab on browser and open a safe page, I used safe://glasgow.
  4. Toggle open dev tools

Dev tools flashes up for a brief moment then the browser crashes

Have updated the issue with the repro steps and with logs produced.

@anon78698497 We’ve released a new alpha browser version this morning. I’ve been doing some testing with it and dev tools appears to be working fine now :tada:

Usual disclaimer with alpha software :smiley:
Though I don’t think there’s anything new in there that should be causing major issues at the moment.

Thanks for the push on this issue and please do let us know if you come across anything else

@StephenC

Thank you very much for addressing the issue. It does appear to be mostly fixed. When starting the browser, the dev tools won’t load for the default tab.

@anon78698497 our ‘internal’ pages are actually not tabs at the moment. So anything internal to the browser (my sites, bookmarks etc) wont let you open devtools. (There is the idea of serving all our pages through the same http server as we retrieve safe: content, but that’s not a priority atm)

If you open a fresh tab that should do it.
